Privacy policy

This policy describes how Brite Bird LLC ("Brite Bird," "we," "us") collects, uses, and protects personal information when you interact with our website, mobile apps, dealer portal, and installed lighting products.

1. Who this applies to

This policy covers everyone who uses Brite Bird:

  • Homeowners and customers — people who have Brite Bird lighting installed and use the Brite Bird app to control it.
  • Dealers and installers — businesses that install Brite Bird products and use our dealer portal to manage their work.
  • Website visitors — anyone browsing brite-bird.com or requesting a quote.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account information — name, email, phone number, home or business address.
  • Quote and estimate details — home type, approximate roofline length, and any notes you share when requesting a quote.
  • Payment information — handled by our payment processors (such as Stripe or financing partners); we receive transaction identifiers and status but do not store full card numbers.
  • Dealer business information — business name, address, tax ID where required, team member names, and order history (dealer portal only).

Information collected automatically from the app and devices

  • Device and usage data — which lights and zones you have installed, scene selections, schedules, color and pattern settings, and on/off events.
  • Approximate location — used to set sunrise/sunset timers and to match you with a local dealer. You can disable location access in your device settings; some features (sunset timers, dealer matching) will stop working.
  • App diagnostics — technical information about your device (OS version, app version, crash logs) used to diagnose problems.

Information from third parties

  • Voice assistants — if you link Brite Bird with Alexa or Google Home, those platforms send us the commands you give them so we can act on them.
  • Financing partners — if you apply for financing, our partners share approval status and plan details with us to complete the install.

3. How we use information

  • To operate the app and your lighting — running scenes, schedules, and settings as you configure them.
  • To deliver installation services — routing quote requests to a local certified dealer.
  • To support your account — responding to questions, troubleshooting, and warranty claims.
  • To improve the product — analyzing which scenes and features people use so we can make the app better.
  • To send service communications — important updates about your account, firmware, or warranty. You cannot opt out of service messages; marketing emails are opt-in.
  • To meet legal obligations — tax, accounting, fraud prevention, and responding to lawful requests.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as follows:

  • Certified dealers and installers — when you request a quote or install, we share your contact info and project details with the local dealer who will serve you.
  • Service providers — cloud hosting, payment processing, analytics, email delivery, and customer support tools that operate on our behalf under confidentiality terms.
  • Voice platforms — if you link Alexa or Google Home, we exchange the minimum information required to execute voice commands.
  • Business transfers — if Brite Bird is acquired or reorganized, customer information may transfer as part of the transaction, subject to this policy.
  • Legal — when required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights, users, or the public.

5. How long we keep information

Account and device data: while your account is active and for up to 24 months after you close it, to honor the warranty and handle returning customers. Payment records: as required by tax law (typically 7 years in the U.S.). Anonymous analytics: indefinitely. You can request earlier deletion (see section 7).

6. Security

We encrypt data in transit (TLS) and at rest where practical. Access to customer data is limited to employees and contractors who need it. No system is perfectly secure; we will notify affected users and regulators if a breach occurs as required by law.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct information that is wrong.
  • Delete your account and personal information.
  • Export your information in a portable format.
  • Opt out of marketing emails at any time (link in every marketing email).
  • Opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information under California law — we do not sell, and we only share as described in section 4.

To exercise these rights, email developer@brite-bird.com from the address on your account. We will verify your identity before making changes.

8. Children

Brite Bird is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we learn we have, we will delete it.

9. International users

Brite Bird is based in the United States. If you use our products from outside the U.S., your information will be transferred to and processed in the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from your home country.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. If changes are material, we will notify account holders by email or in-app notice before the change takes effect. The "effective" date above tells you when the current version was posted.
